I met Stu Scharf in 1964 in Copenhagen, he was touring with Leonard Cohen who had visited Finland (I was told) as guitar accompanist. He visited a small music club, Purple Door, then situated in a borrowed café at Højbro Plads in Copenhagen, and showed great skills in playing and improvising. He was very modest and very bright and knew all the classics and the (spanish/classic) guitar literature and also had a vast knowledge of jazz standards. I don't know how I can verify the tour-information, but my memory is clear. He stayed with a nice girlfriend (student) who lived at a student-accomodation building and there I visited him and he taught me more about guitar playing - in a few hours.
I think he was a great talent and well-educated and I think it deserves to be mentioned that he at that age (23) was on tour with one of the most famous artists (Cohen) which then (and now) needs excellent musicians to get his message "across the stage" - sorry for my idioms, I will revise this text later. --d-axel (talk) 14:49, 29 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
